How Creators Mind runs 2,600+ coaching apps on Appwrite_

Learn how Creators Mind built a white-label learning management system (LMS) on Appwrite that powers 2,600+ coaching apps for Indian educators and reaches nearly 10 million students.

Mohnish Vats started out building websites and apps for clients in Patna, India. Most of those clients turned out to be the same kind of person: a YouTuber or a coaching teacher who had built an audience and wanted to sell courses to it. Around 80% of his first 30 clients were educators.

They all wanted the same thing: a branded app where students could watch live classes, take tests, download notes, and pay fees. So rather than build it from scratch each time, Mohnish and his brothers built it once, and named the company Creators Mind.

Three years later, that one app runs as more than 2,600 separate apps, each carrying a different coaching institute's name, and the students using them add up to almost 10 million people. Every one of those apps runs on Appwrite.

The challenge

Indian test preparation is a large, fragmented market. A single educator with a strong YouTube following can have hundreds of thousands of students, and usually no engineering team.

Creators Mind wanted to sell these educators a complete app under their own brand, with the same feature set every time and light customization where needed. That created two engineering problems.

The first was cloning. Each new client meant a new copy of the app, the backend, the data model, and every server-side function. If that took days of manual setup per client, the business could not scale.

The second was cost. Creators Mind charges educators a one-time setup fee plus a share of their course sales, and covers the servers and support out of that share. Backend bills that grow per client, or per database read, come straight off the margin. The team needed infrastructure they could predict.

What is Creators Mind?

Creators Mind describes itself as a one-stop digital partner for teachers, coaching institutes, and schools. It offers a learning management system delivered as a branded Android app and website for each educator. Inside it, educators can:

  • Run live classes and publish recorded videos
  • Build test series and quizzes
  • Share PDF notes and study material
  • Collect fees and run their own store
  • Answer student doubts and host a community

Beyond software, Creators Mind sells digital boards and flat panels for classrooms, sets up teaching studios, and handles digital marketing for educators.

Educators running on the platform include Law Prep, Aakash, Mentors Eduserve, Disha Online Classes, Target Board, Ask Class, and Ask Board. Several of them have YouTube channels with over a million subscribers.

Building Creators Mind on Appwrite

Before Appwrite, the learning management system (LMS) ran on Firebase. It did not survive the cloning model.

"There were so many problems when I tried to clone the same app again and again. And the database read costs. When we saw Appwrite, the best thing was that you can clone the same app. If I build the same thing, I can clone it. That is the feature that made us use Appwrite."

Creators Mind started on self-hosted Appwrite, moved to Appwrite Cloud during the beta, and stayed on as a paying customer. Mohnish sent plenty of feedback on Discord in those early days and talked to Appwrite's founder, Eldad, more than once about missing pieces. Today the company is growing into one of Appwrite's biggest Pro plan organizations from India.

The base project is the product. Onboarding an educator means cloning it and applying their branding. Each app uses:

Appwrite's pricing took care of the second problem. The Pro plan keeps costs predictable across every project in the organization, and the Console shows usage for each one, so Creators Mind knows what an educator's app costs to run instead of finding out from the bill.

About 90% of Creators Mind's educators run on this shared Appwrite Cloud setup. The remaining 10% ask for their own server, and Creators Mind deploys the same app there with a maintenance fee instead of a revenue share. Because Appwrite is open source and can be self-hosted, the app, data model, and functions move to the educator's infrastructure unchanged.

Mohnish also runs a second company, SuperSquare, which builds apps, websites, and AI automation for clients outside education. In the past, clients there often arrived asking for Supabase specifically because their projects needed PostgreSQL. Now the team is evaluating Appwrite's managed PostgreSQL for some of those projects, for a few reasons:

  • It's standard PostgreSQL. Clients get the engine they asked for, with psql, any PostgreSQL driver, their own ORM, and extensions like pgvector for the AI automation work.
  • Mohnish's team already knows the platform. After three years on Appwrite, a PostgreSQL database is one more resource in a Console they use every day, running in the project's region with its usage tracked alongside everything else.
  • Starting costs nothing extra. The Pro plan includes $10 in database credits each month, which covers a Starter database in full, and each larger specification has a listed monthly price.

Creators Mind today

The company that started as three brothers now has 105 people, an organic following of tens of thousands of educators, and, by Mohnish's account, the top-selling classroom hardware business in Bihar, India. Where the business stands today:

  • More than 2,600 educator apps live on the platform
  • Almost 10 million students reached
  • About $1.1 million (₹9.5 crore) in revenue last financial year, about 30% of it from software
  • Three years on Appwrite, from self-hosting to the Cloud beta to the Pro plan

None of that growth is paid. Educators find Creators Mind through other educators.

"Appwrite gives us the backend power to build, ship, and scale without the backend overhead."

Creators Mind is a white-label product that grew to more than 2,600 brands on a single backend design. Every educator's app starts as a copy of one base project, data model and functions included, with the educator's branding on top, so onboarding the next educator is the same job as onboarding the first. Creators Mind is an education technology company based in Patna, India, founded by Mohnish Vats. It gives teachers, coaching institutes, and schools a branded Android app and website for running their teaching online, along with digital boards, teaching studios, digital marketing, and support. Its software has reached almost 10 million students.

Creators Mind runs its learning management system on Appwrite, with most educators on Appwrite Cloud. Every educator's branded app is a clone of a base Appwrite project, with Appwrite TablesDB for course and student data, Appwrite Functions for server-side logic, Appwrite Messaging for notifications, and Appwrite Sites hosting around 50 educator websites.

Creators Mind builds the same app over and over for different educators. On Firebase, cloning a project repeatedly was painful and database read costs grew with every new client. Appwrite let the team clone a complete project, including its data model and functions, and gave them predictable costs on a single paid plan, with usage visible for every project.

Yes. An Appwrite organization can hold many projects, and each project has its own databases, users, functions, and sites. Creators Mind uses this structure to give each educator an isolated backend while managing them from one Appwrite Cloud account.

Creators Mind is on the Appwrite Pro plan. Its Appwrite Cloud organization hosts about 90% of the company's 2,600+ educator apps, and media files are stored on Amazon S3, which the team manages separately.
