Hey! Can someone help me out? 🥺 Do you have any discounts or programs for non-profit civil society organizations, even if they're not open-source? Or maybe your Startups program could work for us?
Our project is Unisched.app. It's a free, privacy-first mobile app used by thousands of students and educators in Ukraine. It lets users view personal, friends’, teachers’ and classroom schedules, access university services in one tap, and stay updated on news, events and opportunities. Feel free to check out our website and even grab the app, no registration needed at all, you can pick any university and student group right from the start. Now available only in Ukrainian, but thanks to the community, we'll have 3 more languages this September 😊
Next up, we're bringing some digital services to students, like more secure voting for student committees, fully online legal document applications, and digital documents about their current education status. Unfortunately, local regulations mean we can't be open source if we're working with national registries and digital government IDs (like e-passports, permits, etc.) ... but during wartime, we are allowed to use cloud services located outside the country. Interesting policies, yeah 🙃
I'd really appreciate any help or advice on how to move forward 🥹. Unisched runs on user and team donations, so the budget is super tight (like, we only raised about $1,000 from the users in 2025), but we see this as a really important social project, and that's why we want to keep it free for Ukrainian educational institutions.
I might be able to help. From what you've described, the main challenge is that you're a non-profit project but don't qualify for many open-source programs because of the government integration requirements. Have you already reached out to the provider's startup or nonprofit support team directly, or are you still looking for the best program to apply for?
Hi! Thanks for your reply! 😊 Yeah, this is our biggest hurdle, actually... We're not commercial enough for a startup, but not standard enough for regular non-profit programs 😅. But it's a cool path, which is nice to follow when there are so many awesome people on the road.
Yeah, we're still looking for the best program to apply for...
I think there may be a few funding and credits programs worth looking into, but it'll depend on how your project is structured. If you're open to it, send me a DM. I'd be happy to take a closer look at your setup and see what options fit best. If it makes sense, I can also help with the application process and finding the most suitable programs for Unisched.
Hi! So sorry for the delay, I missed a message here because I accidentally turned off all notifications from the server, not just general mentions 😢 Can I send you a DM?
Dont dm someone you dont really know. If you have github education access you can get pro for 2 projects but only if they are non commercial.
I asked about DMs because <@1500898267914043474> suggested it to me. Regarding the educational plan, I am not a student at the moment, and in general, the educational tariff does not allow such use, unfortunately
Ask some friend or if someone has the access. Even if appwrite's out of coverage afaik there is 300$ digital ocean credit for one year. Just talk to someone if they can lend their access to you. Ask in your community.
