As we mentioned here that this program is for new users, so if the old user go through this program? It doesn't sounds like a credits abuse or somehow they are breaching into this & getting benefits for next 2-3 years!
GitHub doesn’t verify each application personally, which is understandable but they do use AI for specific checks.
What I want to say, is that this AI-based process is kinda loophole, benefiting those whose colleges or universities provide digital ID cards, as such cards can be edited using dev tools.
Let’s consider a scenario: Suppose a person has already graduated, and their GitHub benefits have expired. However, their college provides them with a digital ID card. What if they edit the details to show that they are pursuing higher education in the same university, change the year, and tweak the enrollment number?
GitHub would approve this in just a few minutes, and the person would gain benefits unfairly.
I’m not sure if any logics have been implemented to prevent users with existing accounts from signing up again for the student benefit program, but this seems like an area to address.
