During the custom domain setup process, when configuring SSL verification, the Appwrite dashboard displays the following instruction in the verification modal:
"Create a CNAME record for
_acme-challenge.www.mydomain.compointing toaaaabbbbcccv000111.fastly-validations.com."
Issue:
Depending on the DNS provider (in my case, Namecheap), entering the fully qualified domain name (_acme-challenge.www.mydomain.com) into the "Host" field fails verification. This happens because many DNS management panels automatically append the root domain name to whatever is entered in the Host field, resulting in a misconfigured record like _acme-challenge.www.mydomain.com.
To successfully verify the domain, the Host field only needed to be: _acme-challenge.www
It took some troubleshooting and lost time to identify this mismatch. While DNS providers handle host fields differently (some accept the FQDN with a trailing dot, others only expect the subdomain prefix), it would be very helpful to:
Add a small hint or tooltip inside the popup clarifying that some providers (e.g., Namecheap, Cloudflare, GoDaddy) only require the prefix (e.g., _acme-challenge.www), not the full domain name.
