Appwrite Auth now checks passwords against the Have I Been Pwned breach corpus with breached password detection. Every password a user signs up, signs in, or resets with is checked, and the result is stored on the user as passwordPwned. Only the first five characters of the password's SHA-1 hash leave Appwrite.
On Appwrite Cloud, checking and recording are on by default. From Auth > Policies > Passwords in the Console, you can also reject breached passwords at sign-up and password changes, and block sign-in with a breached password until the user resets it. Self-hosted instances on Appwrite 2.3 and later turn it on with the _APP_PWNED_PASSWORDS_DSN environment variable.
