[SOLVED] Free plan storage lock — project paused, cannot restore or delete anything

Hi, I’m stuck on the Free plan and cannot recover the project myself.

Plan: Free
Storage: 4.58 GB / 2 GB

The Console is locked because the org is over the storage limit. I also cannot open the project to delete anything. The API returns project_paused (“Project is paused due to inactivity”) for every call, including DELETE on functions/deployments.

This app is a small personal finance dashboard. It does not use Appwrite file Storage / buckets at all — only Auth + a few encrypted database documents (likely a few MB at most). The 4.58 GB almost certainly comes from Function/Sites build + deployment artifacts, which started counting toward the quota on 1 September 2026.

I cannot:
restore the paused project
open Functions / Sites in the Console
delete old deployments via API

Could someone from the team please either delete the unused deployments or recalculate/reset the storage usage so I can get back into the project? Happy to provide more details.

Thanks.
Flo

@role WHY??

Yes, you still need to be able to access the console even if a project is locked. And especially if you’ve gone over the limit. @role that’s not well thought out!

If only I made the decisions /:

The core team is aware of the issue and are checking the details, you'll get information about it

Same problem here

Hi, I've also been having a problem since 11.09. with a locked project on a free account (I also have a paid project): since switching to the new console (don’t know if there es a connection), my storage limit is showing as > 2GB, so my project has been locked. The problem is, I don't have 2GB of storage, I’m not even close to that—and here’s the strange part: on the old console, it’s still displayed normally, and my project isn’t locked there either. This is disappointing. I’m thinking about removing my paid project from AppWrite.

Please create a new post so we can keep on track.

By the way, you can use the "Contact Us" option within the paid features to get a faster response.
If you decide to cancel, you can also self-host Appwrite; it works well, though it requires some extra configuration.

It concerns a free project, not my paid project! It must be a bug because my storage is clearly under 2GB, never the less the project was locked. On the new console I can’t access it anymore, on the old console I can.

Any news from the core team?

@Flo @Micha @Bret any resoultion ?

@role This bug, has been linged over half an month, will there be any official statements. ? @user

I was able to restore the project and then access the console, but I can't find the culprit that's bloating my storage to 4.58 GB.

@role my storage is empty but the project reached the Storage Limit? The Site is using 163.72 MB.

I deleted all deployments (Sites). The console still shows 4.58 GB / 2 GB, and the API still returns 402 Resource limit exceeded. Could someone please recalculate the storage usage for project 698114b300336e4d1308 (region fra)?

It takes some hours to update after deleting, but since this is happening since day, looks like a bug

Yes, after a few hours, it updated and my site is working again. So my issue has been resolved. Thank you.
