The server needs to be accessible to your friend.
You can try to expose your server from your home network, but you'd need to configure port forwarding which might get complicated if you've never done it before.
People typically get a virtual private server so that it's accessible from the internet. Oracle has a generous free tier for ARM virtual machines.
