Use Appwrite when ChatGPT is writing an app that needs auth, databases, storage, functions, or hosting. One remote MCP server covers API actions and docs search. Do not add separate `appwrite-api` and `appwrite-docs` servers.

## 1. Install Appwrite skills

Skills give ChatGPT current Appwrite CLI and SDK patterns. In a project directory, run:

```

If you are using Codex inside ChatGPT, you can also install the [Appwrite Codex plugin](/docs/tooling/ai/agents/codex). Skills and MCP work together: skills teach the agent how to write Appwrite code, MCP lets it act on a live project.

## 2. Add the ChatGPT connector

ChatGPT talks to Appwrite through a custom [MCP connector](https://mcp.appwrite.io). There is nothing to install locally.

1. Open ChatGPT settings and go to **Connectors** (sometimes labeled **Apps**).
2. Create a custom connector.
3. Set the MCP server URL to:

https://mcp.appwrite.io
```

4. Use **appwrite** as the server name if the form asks for one.
5. Save, then connect. ChatGPT opens a browser window so you can sign in to Appwrite and authorize access.

The connector uses OAuth. You do not create an API key for Cloud. If ChatGPT cannot complete the redirect, confirm you are signed in to Appwrite Cloud and that pop-ups are allowed.

## 4. Test the integration

After the connector shows as connected, try:

**Example prompts:**

- `Create a new user in my Appwrite project`
- `List all databases in my project`
- `Show me the tables in my database`
- `How do I set up real-time subscriptions in Appwrite?`
- `Show me how to authenticate users with OAuth`
- `How do I implement file uploads with Appwrite Storage?`

If ChatGPT cannot see tools, reconnect the connector and confirm the URL is exactly `https://mcp.appwrite.io` with no extra path.
